Emmanuel: Serving Our City & Loving Our Neighbors
One of the hardest parts of Emmanuel, our homeless ministry in Center City Philadelphia, has been switching our approach in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe in building a foundation based on relationships, dignity for the individual, and creating a safe community. When the pandemic hit, we had to switch our approach from a sit-down, indoor meal to a take-out service. Yes, it was challenging, but we have also been able to expand to two meals a week. By serving on Friday evening and Saturday lunch, we have served 6,103 meals since the first of April! We were also able to distribute 300 pairs of summer shoes to our guests.
By working with Bethesda Project, our guests have the chance to talk with a social worker and get help finding housing. In the month of October we will have caseworker at both the Friday and Saturday meals to help people find much-needed shelter before the winter really takes off.

Celebrate with Us!
I want to share with you an upcoming event in hopes you will join us! The Easter Outreach Celebration & Update takes place at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 21. It will be a 30-minute, online celebration where we will share exciting news about our organization. You’ll also hear from our partners at Philabundance and Caring for Friends, as well as some of the pastors who have been receiving food through Easter Outreach.
Personal Note
A lot of wonderful things have been happening in my life. My family and I got to go tent camping in the Pine Creek valley and it was amazing. I began to teach my oldest daughter, Abrielle, how to fly fish. It was a much-needed rest and great family time. I had no cell service and it was amazing. The family really appreciated it.
